Nathan Garnham BSc, CPT, CES, RT, ERC

Having completed a degree in sports science Nathan worked as a personal trainer and GP referral consultant in Harrogate for 4 years where he specialized in training clients with medical conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, chronic fatigue and osteoporosis. Nathan was then invited to move to London to work with some of the UK’s top personal trainers and physiotherapists and now has 10 years of practical experience in the fitness profession.

Having continued his education with certifications in corrective exercise, rehabilitation and kinetic chain analysis Nathan now specialises in fast improvements in his clients posture and movement patterns promoting injury free training, rapid improvements in strength, fitness and health and relief from niggling aches such as chronic back pain. Nathan was proud to recently feature in Bodyfit magazine discussing how corrective exercise can be implemented to improve your training performance.

Nathan also has a great passion for supporting his clients to shed bodyfat and weight through healthy, natural nutrition and carefully designed exercise programmes with his average clients losing 8-14lbs in their first 30 days of personal coaching. Unlike typical diets Nathan’s nutritional support ensures his clients never go hungry, never count points and always eat normal foods rather than soups and shakes.

Nathan is a friendly, encouraging fitness professional that always looks to educate his clients so that they feel inspired to maintain and improve their fitness beyond their time in training.

Nathan’s favorite quote is “people’s deepest fear is not that they are inadequate, it’s that they are powerful beyond belief”. He feels that if he was to offer any advice it would be to learn from this quote and to truly believe that you are capable of anything you set your mind to. Today take one step towards the body and lifestyle that you desire and just keep on stepping forwards.

Byron is the B-Physical Strength and Conditioning Specialist and loves helping his clients to maximize their potential through periodically constructed fitness programs and professional coaching. With over 10 years of experience with clients of all ages and abilities it is no surprise that he is a well-respected personal trainer in Harrogate and surrounding areas.

Byron began his journey with Leeds United FC as a Football coach working with players from the grass roots level all the way to the academy level. This then took Byron to America playing and coaching soccer full time for 3 years which gave him a great opportunity to develop his teaching style and coaching philosophy whilst branching into Youth Conditioning/Strength & Conditioning.

Byron returned from America and soon decided Strength & Conditioning was where he was going to direct his energy and started working in a gym as a fitness instructor. He then gained his ‘Personal Training diploma’ alongside the ‘GP Referral Consultant’ qualification which all helped to further his Knowledge base.
Byron has continued to develop his studies all the way through his career by doing many courses such as FA Football Coach, Sports Conditioning, IYCA Strength & Conditioning Specialist, IYCA Speed & Agility Specialist, UKSCA Strength & Conditioning Coach (pending), SABO Rehab Trainer (stroke rehab), NASM Corrective Exercise Specialist (pending), Kettlebell Instructor, Boxercise Instructor to mention a few.

Byron has worked with various young/old athletes at Leeds United FC, Soccer Academy (USA), British Divers and National/European Triathlete’s and has been appointed as the Strength and Conditioning Consultant for the North of England for the ASA England Talent Diving Program. Byron has developed the National Strength & Conditioning handbook which is distributed to all national level divers throughout all the clubs in the UK. Byron has worked with some fantastic young athletes over the past 2 years including Jack Laugher and Oliver Dingley who represented England at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi 2010 and Bill Hitchcock who represented Great Britain at the European Triathlon Championships in Spain in June 2011.

Although Byron specializes in the Strength and Conditioning areas and has clients who compete nationally, he also has many clients who are just as successful at reaching their goals. Whether this is losing a few pounds, losing a few inches or just getting fitter, whatever your goal Byron strives to achieve this and also to educate you about how is best to achieve it and maintain your targets for the time ahead. Byron trains on a friendly and personal level whilst keeping a professional approach to fitness and nutrition.

We all know that a good training session will leave us feeling like we have achieved something, having a personal trainer can always help you to achieve a greater result, there are things which should be taken into consideration when choosing what level of exercise to do and how often to do it.

Who should I train with or ask for advice? – It is always good to train with someone you are comfortable with, a friend of the same physical ability can be good for you both as this will encourage you to achieve more and push each other into a routine. Make sure you are able to keep up with each other and comfortable to stay at a similar level, this will avoid injury and overdoing it!

What should I do in my routines? – Depending on what you want to achieve from your training, be it an increase in speed, physical building, more agility or simply to increase your fitness levels through cardio vascular workouts, it is important to set yourself an achievable routine that you are physically able to do. Seek advice, personal trainers are on hand to help you put together an achievable set of goals and ensure you are able to do this. Do not be afraid to ask for help, personal trainers would rather give you good advice that see you hate your workout!

Where is the best place to train? – You can train wherever you want or feel comfortable, simple running training can be done on the street, a park or on an indoor track, resistance training can be done on an open field or gym and more specific, targeted training can be done at professional, private gym’s like The Fitness Rooms in Harrogate, this ensures you are using the right equipment for the training you are doing. A personal trainer will work with you and put a routine together that suits you and your timetable, if you can only meet for half an hour over your work lunch, this can be arranged!

When should I train? – It is up to you how often you want to train, but it is important not to overdo it, your body needs time to regenerate and adapt to the increase in activity. If you do weights every day then you can do injury and staging your routines, increasing from light workouts through to heavy ones over a few months will benefit you more. Remember, not many people can run a marathon after only a week’s training, it takes dedication and patience, the end result will be worth the effort! Seek advice and work on a routine that suits what you are trying to do, stick to it and be patient, train with a friend and encourage each other.

Why should I train? – The simple fact is, you don’t have to if you don’t want to! However if you see the benefits that will be the end result, why not? Training can be in many forms, weight lifting, running, circuits and many more, each with its own unique outcome for your body. A personal trainer can put a routine together to target what you want to achieve, if you want to increase your speed, resistance training using parachutes will help, to increase agility, reaction exercise routines can be put together, if you are looking for fat loss, a targeted cardio vascular workout will see results. You get out what you put in, if you want to achieve, you can.

If you want any advice, a consultation or simply to see what The Fitness Rooms can do for you, get in touch with one of the Harrogate based personal trainers using the private personal training gym at The White Hart and they will be happy to meet and discuss your needs.

Personal Trainers are a dedicated group of individuals on hand to ensure you get the most out of your fitness regime. Most people think that a personal trainer is just there to push you and shout orders; however this is a misconception which is easily proved wrong if you speak to one of the many professional individuals within this discipline.

A personal trainer is there from the start, an initial meeting is often carried out in a convenient location and time (most personal trainers are on hand all day every day!), followed by a fitness assessment where you will be put through some of the common exercises you might be expected to do whilst on a course, this is to make sure you have full movement and no problems with joints or flexibility, very important to ensure that you don’t injure yourself during your time with the personal trainer.

It is important to be totally honest with your personal trainer at this point, if you have any old injuries, especially back, knees, hips etc, let them know, this won’t stop you being able to train, but the personal trainer will put together a session plan which will ensure you get the most out without causing further problems.

The assessment is also a chance to get to know your personal trainer and be honest about what you want to get out of your sessions, the Personal trainers working out of The Fitness Rooms in Harrogate all have specialist areas as well as common training regimes which can help with many disciplines, speed, strength, agility, power, fat loss, or a combination of these.

Work out what you want to get out of the sessions, a combination of training goals can be created to suit anyone from a rugby union player wanting Strength & Power to help lifting the second row in matches, to an archer wanting Speed & Agility to increase reaction times whilst shooting! The personal trainers in Harrogate will look at what you want and help you achieve this.

Once your personal training begins, they are with you every step of the way, in the scheduled sessions as well as on call for advice into the training they may give you outside these sessions or the nutritional plans they may have advised.

It is always important to look at the background of a personal trainer, don’t be afraid to ask for proof of qualifications or references, the best personal trainers will be happy to show you their training record and give you appropriate references.

A personal trainer is not restricted by venue, will travel to the gym, your home even work place if needed, this helps to put you in the right environment, if you regularly practice or play at a sports field, then why not train in that environment, it’s where you will be putting all this practice into practical application. Alternatively use a dedicated private gym, the personal trainers using The Fitness Rooms at The White Hart know they are using a professional, modern & private space where their clients can get the most out of their training.

The benefits of working with a personal trainer are vast, primarily having someone dedicated to monitor and encourage your performance, set goals and change the sessions as needed. They look into body performance; improve body composition, physical performance and health.

The possibilities that open up are vast when working on your fitness alongside a personal trainer so to find out more, contact one of the dedicated trainers who use The Fitness Rooms in Harrogate and arrange a personal assessment, you will be amazed at the results.

Spinning is a fairly recent addition to the fitness world, it takes place in a studio using exercise bikes and sees a strong cardio vascular workout which is ideal for late evenings or bad weather times.
